A Night at The End of Oak Street

I was lucky enough to attend the Sydney premiere of The End of Oak Street, and this is definitely one of those movies where I’m glad I experienced it on the big screen.

The premise is completely wild. A seemingly ordinary 1980s suburban neighbourhood is suddenly ripped away from everything familiar and dropped into a world where things are very, very different. And from there, it becomes this mix of sci-fi, thriller, family drama and full-blown dinosaur chaos.

But what surprised me most was that underneath all the dinosaurs and action, there’s actually a really strong family story.

Anne Hathaway is fantastic. She brings so much emotion and intensity to Denise, particularly as everything around her becomes increasingly unpredictable. And Ewan McGregor is brilliant alongside her, their dynamic really gives the film its emotional centre.

And then there are the dinosaurs… 🦖

There are definitely moments where I was sitting there thinking, “WHAT is happening?” 😂 But in the best possible way. It's weird, unexpected, visually fun and definitely not the straightforward dinosaur movie you might expect from the trailer.

I also loved the 80s setting. There’s something about taking this very normal, nostalgic suburban world and throwing something completely prehistoric into it that makes the whole thing feel surreal.

If you like sci-fi, thrillers, dinosaurs, a bit of mystery and movies that aren't afraid to get a little weird, I’d definitely give this one a go.

And if nothing else, watching Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor trying to survive a suburban dinosaur apocalypse is a pretty good reason to book a movie night.
